The majority of the major Presidential candidates in the Democratic field for 2020 have now signed the No Fossil Fuel Money pledge. That’s ten in all! They join over 1,400 politicians from across the country that have already signed the pledge.
We need leaders that reject the influence of fossil fuel money and plan for a just, climate-safe, renewable energy future for everyone, not just the few. Watch and share our video to learn more:
Dirty fossil fuel money is corrupting our political system and blocking bold action on climate change. If you need to be reminded of just how devastating the corrupting influence of fossil fuel money is on our politics, look no further than the sham vote on the Green New Deal resolution in the Senate two weeks ago. We did the math, and the combined fossil fuel contributions to those senators who voted against the Green New Deal resolution is jaw-dropping: over $55 million!
Signing the No Fossil Fuel Money pledge is a major step for candidates, but it is not the end of the story. Now that many of the Presidential hopefuls are free from the ties of industry cash, we’ll be demanding that they lay out their plans for a managed decline of fossil fuel production here in the U.S. in line with what the climate science demands and what a just transition for communities requires.
With our massive movement calling for bold climate action, candidates are finally starting to step up and fight for real solutions to our climate crisis. No longer do candidates feel the need to cater to an out-of-control fossil fuel industry wreaking havoc on our climate and communities. But some candidates still haven’t signed the No Fossil Fuel Money pledge, and they will continue to hear from us.
